Employee Turned Entrepreneur – Seth Greene

Posted Under: Entrepreneur, Entrepreneurship, Our Heroes

Today we are talking to Seth Greene, next guest under the “Our Heroes” series. Working as a financial planner for 6 years with AG Edwards, Seth broke out of the 9 to 5 jail and created the market domination program. He left the company when the compliance department became more restrictive in the types of marketing practices allowed. Now his business has taken off, and he prides himself on being a nationally recognized expert for financial advisor.  Let’s talk to Seth…

DD: Who are you and what kind of corporate job were you at?

SG: My name is Seth Greene and for 6 years I was a financial planner for the nationwide investment firm of AG Edwards.

DD: What made you leave the job?

SG: Our compliance department kept getting more restrictive in the types of marketing they would let me do.  They were acting as sales prevention instead of helping me grow.  I wanted to be able to do Dan Kennedy style direct response marketing and they wouldn’t let me do it the way I wanted. The final straw was when we were bought out by Wachovia as I had no desire to work for a bank.

DD: When did you realize that you wanted to be an entrepreneur & why?

SG: Since my first year at AG Edwards when my sales manager promised me something and didn’t deliver.  I knew then that someday I wanted to work for myself.

DD: What did you do to break the corporate jail?

SG: I first did a ton of research on what independent broker dealer I would take my clients to. Then I researched securities lawyers to review my existing contract, corporate lawyers to help create my new company, accountants to help with the tax issues, and other planners who had done the switch successfully to learn from them.

DD: How did you prepare for the employee to entrepreneur transition?

SG: I read a ton of books – the E-Myth series, everything by Dan Kennedy, lots of management books, etc.

DD: What are you suggestions for aspiring entrepreneurs?

SG: Go for it! I wish I had done this 10 years sgo.

DD: How are you doing and how do you feel now?

SG: Fantastic. Check out www.silverspoonfinancial.com Business has taken off, and I am now a nationally recognized expert at helping other financial advisors.

DD: That’s Seth Greene CEO of www.marketdominationprogram.com. Like many entrepreneurs, Seth was bit by the entrepreneurial bug while working in the 9 to 5 jail; he took his time to plan and prepare for a successful and profitable escape. Now, he wishes he had done all that 10 years ago, so let me remind and request you to make sure that you don’t have such regret 10 years from now… Go make a success story!!

Success to all!
