Next BIG Thing – The Momtrepreneur Exchange
Posted Under: Entrepreneur, Next BIG Thing
Our next feature under “Next BIG Thing” is The Momtrepreneur Exchange. On the surface it may look like that The Momtrepreneur Exchange is a support group for mom entrepreneurs across US however, I believe it is so much more than just a support group, it is a resource, it is a source of inspiration and information for mom entrepreneurs. Their meetups bring the online support offline and make a difference in the individual members’ lives by adding the human and personal element to the support they offer. Here’s a little chit chat with The Momtrepreneur Maven – Jill Salzman.
DD: Who are you and what is The Momtrepreneur Exchange?
JS: I am The Momtrepreneur Maven and I organize Momtrepreneur Exchanges (meetups) for mom entrepreneurs around the country. There are currently 17 groups in 17 cities and, at the time of this writing, 760 members. (Washington D.C. just opened recently and there will be several more momtrepreneurs joining soon).
DD: What is the #1 challenge for The Momtrepreneur Exchange?
JS: I really do not want to charge my members more than the $10 annual fee they are paying now. I’d like to stay away from turning this into another member-paying networking group and instead focus on resources from elsewhere. At this time I’m looking to sponsorships, but the biggest challenge stopping us from growing to the level I desire is twofold: how to monetize it without having members pay and how to find the right hosts in each city to run them well?
DD: How can one help The Momtrepreneur Exchange?
JS: Finances first–we could really use an infusion of some sort. Obviously we’re all about networking so bring it on! I’d love to have expertise in the form of ideas about how to get the best hosts to run the best groups…especially if that means that each group can take on a life of its own without straying too far from the mothership (pun intended). I’d love any and all ideas that your readers may have. Thanks a million, Devesh!
